About

The Musical Theater Center was founded in 2011. We are a non-profit organization that trains kids and teens in singing, acting, and dancing, and produces full scale musicals with casts made up entirely of actors under sixteen. Our students are talented, dedicated young performers that train with us throughout the week and often refer to MTC as their "home away from home!"

Musical Theater Center's goal is to use musical theater as a way to build self-confidence while developing a performer's dance, vocal, and theater skills in a safe and nurturing environment. Our faculty and production team have a love of the arts as well as the interest of each individual child to aid in their growth and development. Each child is nurtured and cultivated on an individual basis and taught to work as an ensemble as well. As pre-professionals, members of our Troupe not only learn and perform, but create special bonds with other cast members that will last a lifetime.

"I can't begin to tell you how happy I am with Musical Theater Center. I love everything about it! The teachers as well as staff are very professional as well as compassionate and loving. My daughter has grown so much over the past 3 years. The Musical Theater Center has given her much needed confidence. I would recommend MTC  to anyone with small children and  teenagers! A+ all the way around!"

"One of the things that impresses me most about Musical Theater Center is the passion and commitment that the teachers bring to the program.  This passion is not only for producing amazing talent (which they do), but also for producing amazing human beings.  They work tirelessly to encourage the growth of all the kids, from the natural show stoppers to the shy child that gravitates to the back of the room. They promote the values of hard work, commitment and courage but also kindness, empathy, and team work in equal measure.  This has resulted in a group of kids and teachers that my daughter refers to consistently and lovingly as her "second family."  What more could a parent ask for?"

"I’m always looking for an excuse to come to Mt. Pleasant to visit my family, but there is no better one than to attend a performance of The Musical Theater Center. My granddaughter has been singing, dancing, and acting with the Troupe program for five years.  It has been such a joy to watch her build confidence and grace with each passing year.  The teachers and friends that she has made there are truly her second family, one that has had a profoundly positive influence on her life.  While my eyes are always on her (usually brimming with tears!), I have also enjoyed the performances of the many amazingly talented young people that the Troupe is so capably nurturing."

"I think joining the Musical Theater Center was one of the best things my husband and I have done for our child. She has learned so much... from gaining great self-confidence and speaking in front of crowds, to how to carry herself with grace (learned in ballet), to working with a team. She considers her Troupe her team and her family and is willing to dedicate herself to work hard to support them. The Musical Theater Center offers a variety of wonderful opportunities to perform and entertain, whether it's here in the Mt Pleasant/ Charleston area at local theatres and community events and facilities, or DisneyWorld and beyond."

"We love being a part of the Musical Theater Center Family! From our very first summer camp they have welcomed us with open arms. I didn't matter if you were the smallest fish in the sea or the lead role. They have always treated each child the same, and shown love to each of them. The progress my daughter has made in only two years is outstanding, and I am blown away at every performance! Thanks for all you do!"
